Here at ABEL Heating and Cooling, we are concerned with the satisfaction of the heating and cooling needs of our customers in the Minnetonka area suburbs of Minneapolis. We strive to offer total comfort to our customers through outstanding service, quality products and honest respect to each home owner or client we serve. Contributing positively to the environment and community is another core value of ours. Because of this, we desire to see every house or commercial building we service be as energy efficient as possible.

The History of ABEL Heating and Cooling

Since 1944, we’ve been handling your heating and air conditioning needs right here in the Twin Cities west metro area. We are family owned and operated – we have been since the beginning.

Abel B & C Inc, heating and air conditioning, is believed to have started around 1944. The earliest dated plaque found in the archives is a Lennox award dated 1944. They operated out of Excelsior, MN for about 65 years, 266 Water St. being the main location. Many changes happened in the years to come and in 2008, they decided it would be best to join with another company to better serve their loyal customers. Negotiations were made with the commercial heating and air conditioning company, Onsite Mechanical and in December of 2008 they merged to strengthen their service and increase their value as a company.

Onsite Mechanical started in 1999, under the direction of Fred Ridler. Faithfully serving the commercial needs of the Minneapolis west metro for nine years, growth was a constant thing for the new company. That growth continues today joined with the residential HVAC company Abel B & C Inc. Now, stronger than ever, ABEL Heating and Cooling serves the residential and commercial needs of the western suburbs out of their shop on the main drag of St. Bonifacius, MN.

Meet Fred, ABEL Heating and Cooling’s Owner

For over 40 years, Fred has been in the plumbing, heating & air conditioning industry. Beginning at 6yrs of age he worked summers at his grandfather’s shop (picture of him shown above). Since you can’t leave a 6-year-old home alone, he spent time organizing bins, pieces of pipe and fittings left all over the shop.

In high school he was dropped off at boiler projects to remove old cast iron boilers and haul them to the curb. At the end of the day his uncles would help load the debris for disposal. After picking up the skills of welding, cutting and fitting pipe, Fred began to help install boiler and furnace systems.

He attended a tech college for commercial and residential heating and air conditioning service, repair and maintenance. For the next 10 years he earned a living as a service technician and then moved into residential estimating & design for the following 5 years. After that he worked for 7 years as a commercial service & replacement contract engineer.

Fred started his own business in 1999, Onsite Mechanical, and in December 2008 bought his former employer Abel B & C Inc. ABEL Heating and Cooling was formed … and the rest is history.
